About the role:

In this role, you will not only manage and optimize our current legal and compliance operations but also play a crucial role in scaling these functions to match our company's rapid growth trajectory. You will be expected to bring innovative solutions and a proactive approach to challenges, positioning our legal department as a strategic business partner.

In this role, you will spearhead the integration of data-driven risk management into our legal operations, using analytics to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks that could impact our business. In this role, you're at the heart of ensuring our legal and compliance infrastructure effectively supports our rapid expansion. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, your focus will be on enhancing legal operations, overseeing contract management, establishing robust privacy and security compliance frameworks and leading compliance efforts across the organization. Your ability to manage projects, communicate effectively, and organize efficiently will be crucial to your success.

⚒️ Responsibilities:

  • Legal Processes and Documentation: Develop and refine legal processes and workflows to improve efficiency. Organize and maintain legal documentation, ensuring accessibility, compliance with retention policies, and enabling efficient discovery and litigation support.
  • Data-Driven Risk Management: Leverage analytics tools like Metabase and BigQuery to conduct risk assessments, forecast potential legal and compliance issues, and develop mitigation strategies. Utilize data to prioritize risks based on their potential impact and likelihood.
  • Compliance Frameworks and Monitoring: Establish and maintain privacy and security compliance frameworks, including relevant certifications (e.g., CCPA, SOC, ISO 27001). Implement procedures to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance across business operations.
  • Contract and Vendor Management: Support the management of contracts, including tracking and ensuring compliance with company policies. Assess and manage risks associated with third-party vendors.
  • Training and Awareness: Design and conduct training programs to raise awareness and ensure company-wide compliance with legal, privacy, and security standards.
  • Technology and Reporting: Identify, implement, and manage legal technology solutions to streamline workflows. Develop and maintain metrics and reporting systems to track the performance and effectiveness of legal operations.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Champion innovation by continuously seeking and implementing new technologies and processes that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our legal operations. Your forward-thinking approach will be key to evolving our legal practices in line with industry trends and business growth.
  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Contribute to the strategic planning of the legal department, aligning legal and compliance objectives with business goals to foster growth and mitigate risks.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Work closely with other departments to integrate legal and compliance considerations into company strategies and operations.

🙌 Required Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; paralegal certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in legal operations, compliance, or a related field, with a preference for startup or fintech environment experience.
  • Strong proficiency in data analytics, specifically with experience in using SQL for complex querying, and familiarity with analytics platforms like Metabase and BigQuery. Demonstrated ability to translate data insights into actionable legal strategies and risk mitigation plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and multitask in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across teams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational capabilities.
  • Knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment in fintech, tax preparation, and bookkeeping services is a plus.

What we offer in return:

Compensation Range: $132,000 - $150,000 annual base salary.

The salary ranges for the roles are posted for your convenience and review. Please understand that if an offer is presented, the offer compensation package will be based on the relevant position related skills a candidate demonstrates during our formal interview process.
