CashBook is a YC-backed fintech startup building UPI-based expense management for Indian businesses. We’re a profitable, small, fast-moving team solving real problems for Indian businesses, and we’re looking for someone to own the people and office operations side of things as we scale.
About the Role
We’re hiring an HR Generalist who will be our go-to person for everything people and office related. This is a hands-on role in a startup environment. You won’t be writing policies in a vacuum. You’ll be in the thick of things, helping us hire well, keep the team engaged, stay compliant, and make sure the office runs smoothly. We’re an AI-forward team, so we value someone who actively uses AI tools to work faster and smarter. If you thrive in ambiguity and like building things from scratch, this is for you.
What You’ll Do
HR Operations
- Manage the full employee lifecycle: onboarding, documentation, confirmations, exits
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR files
- Handle payroll coordination, leave tracking, and attendance management
- Draft and maintain HR policies, offer letters, and employment contracts
Recruiting
- Support hiring efforts end-to-end: job postings, sourcing, screening, interview scheduling, and offer rollouts
- Coordinate with hiring managers to understand role requirements and move quickly on open positions
- Manage candidate communication and ensure a smooth candidate experience
Employee Engagement
- Plan and execute team engagement activities, celebrations, and offsites
- Be the first point of contact for employee queries, concerns, and feedback
- Help build a positive, transparent, and high-energy work culture
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Indian labour laws and local regulations (PF, ESI, PT)
- Coordinate with external consultants or legal advisors on compliance matters
- Keep track of statutory filings, renewals, and deadlines
Office Administration
- Oversee day-to-day office operations
- Handle office logistics including visitor management, courier and travel bookings as needed
What We’re Looking For
- ~2 years of experience in an HR generalist or people ops role, preferably at an early-stage startup
- MBA or PG Diploma in HR (preferred)
- Solid understanding of Indian labour laws and statutory compliance
- Comfortable working with Google Workspace, Slack, and Notion
- Hands-on experience with AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Notion AI, or similar) to streamline workflows, draft documents, source candidates, or automate repetitive tasks. This is a strong plus.
- Strong organizational skills. You’re the kind of person who doesn’t let things fall through the cracks
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Self-starter mindset. You don’t wait to be told what to do
