Who We Are

Settle is on a mission to make buying inventory super easy. Since the company’s inception in 2019, we’ve been building a cashflow management platform that allows founders and small business owners to more easily manage their company’s financial health with a mix of accounts payable and flexible financing tools. We already work with some amazing brands that you probably know and love, like Branch Furniture, Olipop, Truvani, Starface, and Ghia.

About the role:

As a Software Engineer on the SOX team (Self-Service, Onboarding & Cross-Selling) at Settle, you will be responsible for developing the customer onboarding experience. You’ll play a vital role in designing and building high-impact, results-oriented systems, products, and features. With strong product-market fit, organic growth, and a robust long-term roadmap, you will be an integral part of a dynamic team driving Settle's ongoing success.

We are seeking versatile back-end engineers (some front-end exposure a plus) with a product-focused mindset to elevate our business to new heights. The ideal candidate is forward-thinking, capable of designing enduring foundational systems for the coming years, and adept at steering clear of scope creep while delivering incremental value. We want someone who is iterative in their approach, moves with agility, and places the customer at the forefront of their decision-making process.

What you'll do:

  • Enhance Customer Onboarding: Develop scalable solutions to streamline the onboarding process, ensuring that customers have a smooth, intuitive, and frictionless experience. Focus on simplifying self-serve functionality to enable users to onboard independently without heavy reliance on support.
  • Growth Hacking for Product Expansion: Architect systems and integrations that help cross-sell and up-sell Settle’s other product offerings. Build features that analyze user behavior and enable the product to proactively offer the right services at the right time.
  • Fraud and Compliance Safeguards: Build and maintain robust systems that ensure all customer onboarding processes meet fraud prevention and compliance guidelines.
  • Architect Extensible Systems: Design and maintain extensible APIs and services that support a growing user base, evolving product features, and increasing regulatory complexity.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with Product, Design, and Compliance teams to develop customer-facing functionality that is not only intuitive but also secure and compliant with industry regulations.
  • Optimize for Scale and Security: Continuously improve the performance and reliability of systems to meet the growing needs of our users while ensuring that all compliance and security measures are in place.
  • Mentor and Lead by Example: Foster a culture of growth and learning within the engineering team by mentoring junior engineers and providing guidance on best practices for building scalable, secure, and compliant systems.
  • Drive Projects Independently: Take full ownership of projects from conception through implementation, ensuring effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders throughout the process.

What you’ll need:

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, ideally in a fintech or B2B startup environment.
  • Strong technical background in API development and system architecture, with a particular focus on secure, scalable, and user-centric systems.
  • Expertise in fraud prevention and compliance, especially within the fintech space. Familiarity with compliance standards and regulations for financial transactions is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency in Ruby on Rails, or the willingness to quickly learn it as our primary backend framework. Experience with ORM frameworks (e.g., Django or Hibernate) is also preferred.
  • Experience designing seamless onboarding systems that drive customer success while ensuring compliance with SOX and other financial regulations.
  • Growth hacking mindset, with the ability to develop systems that enable effective self-service, cross-selling, and up-selling within the product ecosystem.
  • Experience building microservices that are scalable, resilient, and secure, with a focus on fraud detection and prevention.
  • Customer-focused approach—you understand the importance of delivering a flawless user experience while ensuring backend systems are secure and compliant.
  • Leadership qualities, including the ability to guide and mentor team members, as well as the initiative to drive projects to completion with minimal oversight.
  • Adaptability and problem-solving skills in a dynamic startup environment. You’re able to pivot quickly, learn on the fly, and embrace challenges with a positive mindset.
