The Role

We’re hiring our first GTM role at Layer to scale our sales and marketing efforts. It’s already working - we’ve partnered with over 15 SMB software platforms and launched embedded accounting to tens of thousands of their SMBs. Now, we’re looking for someone to help us expand and level up what we’ve started.

You’ll partner directly with the CEO to identify and qualify new opportunities, run early-stage sales conversations, and help us build scalable GTM processes.

What you’ll do:

  • Identify and prioritize high-potential SMB software platform prospects. Build and manage a pipeline of qualified leads that align with our ideal customer profile.

  • Lead outbound efforts across email, LinkedIn, and other channels to engage founders and senior executives at prospects.

  • Qualify inbound leads and run early discovery conversations with founders, product leaders, and executives at prospective customers.

  • Drive content marketing (customer stories, blog posts, LinkedIn content) to support awareness and demand generation.

  • Coordinate event marketing, from small founder dinners to industry conferences.

  • Partner with Layer’s CEO to refine messaging, targeting, and overall sales strategy.

  • Clear, confident communicators - You’re an exceptional written and verbal communicator. You know how to tailor your message to different audiences, whether it’s a cold outbound email or a call with a senior executive.

  • Resilient and low ego - You stay motivated, adapt to changing circumstances well, and bring a team-first mindset.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • 2-4 years of experience in sales, business development, or partnerships at a technology company

  • A track record of exceeding quota or hitting ambitious performance targets

  • Familiarity with B2B prospecting and outbound best practices

  • Experience building relationships with senior executives and navigating multi-stakeholder sales/partnership processes

  • Hunger to learn and grow

We’re in the midst of a revolution in the way small business owners run their businesses. SMBs now run most of their core operations and business finances through SMB software platforms like Toast, Square, or Mindbody. But when it comes to doing bookkeeping and tax preparation, business owners have no choice but to flatten & export data out into a standalone accounting system, like QuickBooks. These systems are generic, confusing to use, and lack the granular data SMBs need to understand their cash flow.

Layer flips this process around and brings accounting to where the source of truth data already exists: within SMB software platforms. For business owners, this completely removes the pain of:

  • Importing data

  • Guessing what transaction categories to track

  • Manually reconciling several different systems just to see if you’re profitable

We’re building accounting software and bookkeeping services API-first so they can be integrated directly into the SMB software platforms where business owners already work. With Layer, small business owners get a radically better accounting experience with frictionless integration and the SMB software platforms increase customer engagement/revenue by solving this core pain point.

Since founding the company in May 2023, we’ve gone live with multiple platform customers and onboarded thousands of SMBs to Layer. We're backed by tier 1 VCs and senior executives at top SMB software companies.

We love building in person and want the whole team to be together in our downtown SF office. Of course with high trust comes high flexibility whenever you need it.
